Words from the events organizer, Ben Cheatwood:
You will see that there is a slight increase in the
2005 entry for non-AMA members. The reason is there is a question
on the sanction form that reads 'is there a discount for AMA members?'
The answer to that question is yes and now we can move on with the
rest of the information for our 23rd event.
Last year there were a few riders whose motorcycles seemed to be
a tad loud and may have been missing some valuable items like a
headlight, tail light, license plate and maybe insurance. Well for
2005, we will not change our stand and humbly ask that your motorcycle
meet all of the requirements for street operation in the state of
Georgia. Should you have any questions about riding your motorcycle
in the 2005 event we invite you to simply ask the friendly Union
county policeman who will be assisting us with the start of our
event. And yes a motorcycle endorsement is required on your driver's
license unless your state does not require the endorsement.
We have been doing this event for over 20 years in and around Suches.
We are dedicated to having fun with small motorcycles and giving
back a little to the community. In the good old days the route was
100+ miles and on occasion would incorporate a dirt road or two.
We have seen a huge increase in the number of houses, businesses
and fast moving 4 lane highways move into this beautiful area of
North Georgia. We feel fortunate that we can still have a 100km
event without seeing a stoplight or even crossing a four-lane highway.
I have made a few political comments along the way and I have taken
some heat for my comments regarding my views and my right to use
this forum for communicating such views. A few riders have taken
a shot back and that is fine with me. First this is my event and
it is open to you what ever your views may be at this time. According
to the AMA there are thousands of events you have to choose from
each year for your motorcycling enjoyment. Second, there have been
numerous laws passed and judge rulings that have had an affect on
our sport and our lives in general. Therefore I will continue to
use my event to state how I feel.
Ted Kennedy continues to dazzle us with his insight about drowning
a person with this recent statement in the Senate. If Mary Jo had
so been so lucky to just think she might drown.
Now, the [Washington] Post article states you chaired several
meetings at which various interrogation techniques were discussed.
These techniques included the threat of live burial and water
boarding, whereby the detainee is strapped to a board, forcibly
pushed under water, wrapped in a wet towel, and made to believe
he might drown.
Just when you thought that the Dems had gone to the extreme with
their Hollywood buddies, they pop up with the doctor of political
leadership know as Howard Dean. Dean has let it be known that many
Republicans do not know how to work for a living and the party is
made up of unfriendly white Christian men. The Dems have few if
any minorities in key positions and made it near impossible for
minorities to succeed in the other party with their vicious attacks
of nominees to the federal judge appointments. Could Dean be the
gift that keeps on giving?
TWO motorcycle campground and resort again will be the host site

We would like to thank some special folks who have gone out of
their way to help make this event a success. Britt and GT Turner
from TWO whose hospitality is second to none. Tommy Greenway from
Specialty Engraving [770-448-3386] for generous assistance with
our world famous plaques and t-shirts. Chester Graham from Go-Pro
Ltd [770-446-7777] for assistance with our event hats. Jeff Gundlach
for another great masterpiece that serves as our mascot and artwork
for our event. Let us not forget the Gaddistown Homemakers club
for the outstanding tasty cookies uniquely created for our fundraising
efforts. Not only have the cookies been quite tasty some had some
special eye appeal to them as well.
Get your motors running, dust off the riding gear, send in your
money soon and prepare to travel a long distance to ride your street
legal 50cc motorcycle on a public road for a cheap plaque. The fun
starts [riders meeting and parade] by 8am on Sunday October 30,
2005. Remember, the True Grits Fun is not a race rather it is a
tradition of fun on small motorcycles.
